A resident of Prayagraj, Faizul drives an ambulance. He says his hearse van is his life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he leaves his home everyday without any hope of returning as there are a lot of people in the city who need immediate help. He does that with exemplary dedication.?
For 15 years, he picked up dead bodies on a trolley, then he bought a hearse, and with the help of an NGO he has got all the necessary documents to do his job. Faizul calls it his life.
?Faizul lost his father at a young age, when he was in school. Due to financial crisis at home he was forced to pull a goods trolley in the city. After all his brothers and sisters got married and left the home, he was left alone with his mother.
?He recalls that one day when he was returning after delivering the goods, he found a man with a dead body looking for means to take it to the crematorium. Faizul ferried it on his trolley. He never looked back since then.
?For the last 15 years, he carried dead bodies on his trolley and never demanded even a single penny from anyone. He used to accept whatever people gave him as a gesture to thank him. His area of worked stretched up to 50 kilometres and 14 police stations from where he would carry the unclaimed bodies for the last rites.
?Eventually, he started getting tired after pulling the trolley every day.
Faizul says that he collected money to buy a hearse. He got help from Men¡¯s Club in the city. They helped him get the required documents to run an ambulance. Since then, Faizul has been running his ambulance across the city. He still doesn¡¯t demand money, keeps whatever he receives.
?Faizul says that the coronavirus pandemic has multiplied the misery of the people manifold. Deaths are so high in number that he¡¯s been working round the clock. Despite that, several people are left unattended. He says he is trying his best to help everyone he comes across.
