A shocking video has emerged from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh in which a group of people can be seen torturing a young Dalit girl.
In the video, two men can be seen holding up the legs of the girl, using a stick while a third man hits her on her feet repeatedly with a stick.
As the girl cries in pain, the men continue to assault her and even pull her hair.
At least two women can be seen in the video, threatening the girl to tell the truth.
According to reports, the video is from Raipur Fulwari village in Amethi.
One of the men seen in the video, identified as Sooraj Soni allegedly lost two mobile phones.
Soni reportedly identified the Dalit girl from CCTV visuals and instead of handing her over to the police, he and his friend thrashed her.
According to some reports, the girl's feet have been crashed due to the brutal attack.
After the video went viral, Amethi DSP Arpit Kapoor said a case has been registered and two people have been arrested.
"A video has come to our notice through social media where a minor girl was seen being thrashed by Suraj Soni and Shivam, residents of Amethi town, and some people whose identities are being verified. Immediately, we contacted the girl and her father. A case has been registered at the Amethi police station," Kapoor said in a video statement posted on Twitter.
The accused have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Reacting to the incident, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the UP government and said: "This incident of the ruthless thrashing of a Dalit girl in Amethi is condemnable. On average, 34 crimes against Dalits take place every day under your rule, and 135 against women. Yet your law and order is sleeping."
"If the criminals are not caught within 24 hours, the Congress will work to wake you up through strong agitations," she said.
