In a shocking crime that brings back memories of the Shraddha Walkar murder case in Delhi in 2022, a man was arrested in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas for killing his live-in partner. The accused, identified as Sanjay Patidar, was arrested on Friday, nearly ten months after he committed the crime.
What makes the murder that took place in March 2024 even more shocking is the fact that it went unnoticed till now. The gruesome crime was uncovered by an unsuspecting man who was searching for the source of a foul smell in his rented house.
Balveer Rajput, a resident of Ingoria in Ujjain, had rented the ground floor of a house in Dewas in July 2024, but he was told that he could not use two of the rooms, which were locked by the previous tenant who had vacated in June and left some of his belongings behind.
On Friday, Rajput broke the lock of the room and, to his utter shock, found a partially decomposed body inside a fridge.
The body of the woman was wearing jewellery, and her hands were tied along with a noose around her neck.
According to the police, the woman has been identified as Pratibha Patidar, the live-in partner of the previous tenant Sanjay Patidar.
The accused, who was arrested from Ujjain on Friday, admitted to killing the woman in March with the help of a friend.
Police said that though Patidar vacated the house in June 2024, he left some of his belongings behind in two locked rooms, promising the landlord to clear them soon. He also frequently returned to the house in Dewas to check on the body.
The crime, which went unnoticed for nearly a year, was uncovered by Rajput, who, a few days ago, opened the locked rooms and turned off the power supply to the refrigerator, which he thought the previous tenant had kept on by mistake. This led to the body decomposing and emitting a foul smell in the next few days.
Patidar, who admitted to the murder, said he killed his live-in partner of five years because she was insisting on getting married.
