The Maharashtra School Education Department has announced that schools and junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Konkan region will remain shut on Thursday in wake of the heavy rains pounding the region since Monday night.
The BMC had on Wednesday asked the schools in the city and suburbs to remain closed due to the rainfall.
On Thursday too, the IMD has issued an orange alert to Mumbai and adjoining areas and has predicted heavy rains throughout the day.
Following the alert team of Mumbai Police, BMC, Mumbai Fire Brigade, NDRF, and Railways,? have been asked to be prepared for any emergencies.

According to IMD, in the last four days, Mumbai has received 399.4 mm of rain, which is more than the average rainfall of September.
Private weather forecaster Skymet has predicted that Monsoon surge along the West Coast will result in moderate rains with a couple of intense heavy spells over Mumbai and it's suburbs but it will not be as heavy as they were Wednesday.
Meanwhile, it is another day of chaos for Mumbaikars as the waterlogging triggered by the heavy overnight rains have affected vehicular traffic across the city.

Though waterlogging has been reported in many places there are also some reports that the situation has been improving and water has begun receding in places where it has not rained since morning.
While the BEST service is operational in most of the routes, train services have taken a hit.
Three trains, Surat-Mumbai Central, Mumbai Central-Surat, & Bandra T -VAPI were cancelled due to heavy rains & water-logging, at Nallasopara, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway said.

The situation is also similar at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) where many flights have been cancelled or delayed due to the rains.
On Wednesday, as many as 20 flights were cancelled and 280 others were delayed due to the rains.
