The landslide in Pettimala, Munnar is turning out to be a major natural disaster in Kerala which is still in the grip of another worsening flood situation.
Many are comparing it to what happened in Wayanad last year, where a tribal hamlet was buried under a landslide and?Kavalappara, where an entire village was destroyed after a hill came down.
Since Friday, many are waiting to know what happened to their loved ones, who used to live in the layam, which are accommodations for tea plantation workers.
With time running out, many are losing hope that their loved ones will come back alive and are slowing accepting the reality.
But there are a few others, who are still eagerly waiting for them to return. Two dogs have been spotted among the debris, refusing to move away, even for food.
These dogs believed to be owned by some of the residents who were swept away by in the landslide have been spotted among the debris since Friday.
According to the rescue workers, people have tried offering the dogs, food to eat but they refused to take the food.
Some also tried to move the dogs away from the debris, but they kept coming back, to the spot where their owners' houses once stood.
After their photos were widely shared online, many have also come forward to adopt the dogs.?
For the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, the NDRF, KSDRF, Kerala Fire Force, Police and local volunteers are continuing their search for those who are still unaccounted for.
82 people were said to have been living in the accommodation for the tea plantation workers of the Pettimudi Estate owned by the Tata Group when the landslide struck.
So far 49 bodies have been recovered, while 12 were rescued.
