BJP is making a comeback in Delhi after 27 years¡ªand not just with a victory, but a landslide one! While their return to power seemed somewhat predictable, the scale of their lead has taken many by surprise. From winning only eight seats in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections to now leading in over 45 constituencies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has completely flipped the script, unseating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). But besides BJP, there's another big winner today¡ªmemes! The internet is flooded with hilarious takes on the election results.
Check out some of the reactions below:
Voting for Delhi's 70-seat assembly took place on February 5, with a recorded turnout of 60.54%.?
The results delivered a massive blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), marking its worst-ever electoral performance.?
Once a dominant force in Delhi politics, AAP, which had 62 out of 70 seats in 2015, has now been reduced to fewer than 25 seats, leading to its exit from power.
Previously, BJP ruled the capital between 1993 and 1998 under three chief ministers¡ªMadan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.
Adding to AAP's troubles, one of its key figures, Manish Sisodia, faced a shocking defeat. Sisodia, known as the architect of AAP's education reforms, had shifted from Patparganj to Jangpura but lost to BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah. He conceded defeat after trailing by 572 votes in the final rounds.?
Other major AAP candidates, including first-time contender and renowned civil services coach Avadh Ojha, also failed to secure a victory.
However, amidst the losses, some AAP leaders managed to hold their ground. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi emerged victorious in Kalkaji after defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri.
AAP's downfall has been attributed to several factors, including growing anti-incumbency, corruption allegations, the arrests of key leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, and the party's failure to forge an alliance with Congress and other INDIA-bloc parties.
