In a shocking incident, Bengaluru police central crime branch (CCB) arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly making MDMA crystals at home using a pressure cooker.
MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, E, or molly, is a psychoactive drug and its desired effects include altered sensations, increased energy, empathy, as well as pleasure. It is a banned narcotic substance?under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.?
Police raided a house in Bengaluru's Tarabanahalli village near Hesaraghatta on Monday, January 10, based on a tip-off. They arrested Richard Mbudu Cyrill and recovered raw materials worth Rs 50 lakhs.
As per police reports, Cyrill came to India in 2019 with his elder brother on a business visa. He shifted to Tarabanahalli two months ago.Police seized 930 grams of methylsulfonylmethane, 580 grams of sodium hydroxide crystal, five litres of acid, an altered 10 litre pressure cooker, a pipe, a digital weighing machine, two mobiles and a scooter, together worth Rs 50 lakhs.
According to the police, Cyrill¡¯s elder brother is the main accused. The brothers learnt to make MDMA crystals on the internet. They altered the pressure cooker and boiled the raw materials in it. They collected the vapor and cooled it to make MDMA crystals.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) against Cyrill and his brother. Efforts are on to nab the elder brother.
Recently, Kochi has been seeing a massive spike in the seizure of ganja and synthetic drugs. In a big haul in end of December last year, MDMA, worth nearly Rs 2.5 crores was seized from two people who reached Aluva police station from Bengaluru on Sunday morning.
Police arrested two people identified as Rahul Subash (28) and Sainul (19) who confessed to bringing the ecstasy for the New Year celebrations, the Times of India (TOI) had reported. The officials seized 3kg of MDMA valued at Rs 2.5 crore at the Aluva railway station.
A report published in the New Indian Express (TNIE) at the time had revealed that the contraband was found hidden in panipuri and juice packets. Police officials said that the accused had acquired the drugs from Delhi and the ecstasy was smuggled into the district for being peddled among youngsters.
