Want to enjoy the winter chill without the alarming pollution? Then head to Munnar hill station in Kerala.
For the past couple of days, Munnar is freezing, quite literally! Across many parts of Munnar, the mercury has plunged to as low as minus three degrees, ?the lowest temperature recorded this season.
Thin layers of frost were seen in the meadows and tea plants in Meesapulimala, Kolukkumalai, Gudarala, Kundala, Chenduvara and Kannimala in and around Munnar. Local reports also suggest that even places like Marayur and Kanthalloor have received some snow.
The chilling weather conditions are likely to continue for at least the next few days.?
With winter in full swing, the hill station has seen an increase in tourist footfall for the past couple of weeks.
Since Christmas hotels and resorts in Munnar are doing brisk business with an increase in the number of tourists.
In places like Meesapulimala, known for its breathtaking sunrise view there has been an increase in the number of visitors.?
Other key tourist attractions like Mattupetty, Kolukkumalai Top Station are also bustling with tourists.
This is a welcome sign for Munnar's tourism industry which had suffered massive damages in the floods that ravaged the state in August 2018. What was supposed to be the biggest tourist season on record for Munnar with the blooming of Neelakurinji after 12 years was almost washed away last year in the floods. But slowly but steadily the city has recovered from the floods and is back in business as usual.
