At a time when a controversy over Hindi has erupted after a Twitter spat between actors Ajay Devgn and Kichcha Sudeep, a video of similar capacity has been doing rounds on the social media.
In the video that appears to be taken on a ferry, a North Indian group and a South Indian woman can be seen engaging in a verbal spat. In the 3-second clip, the two can be heard arguing over their respective languages -- Hindi and Kannada.
It gets ugly when the entire group can be heard heckling the woman. While one man mocks her by mimicking her accent, another one can be heard shouting, "Hindi bol Hindi." He further goes on to say, "We are Hindustani" and chants "Vande Mataram, Vande Mataram".
The man is then seen aggressively shouting, "Say Vande Mataram, say it. Say Vande Mataram".?
The video was first tweeted by DMK MLA T.R.B Raja last Thursday. He captioned the video as, "A freakin cheap bozo shows his crass mindset to a Kannadiga sister. She says #HindiIsNotNationalLanguage. Uncultured people in this country prove that hindi is the choice to utter filth. Surely those fighting for the language must fight for the education of their children first."
Here's the video of the incident:
However, the identity of the group and the woman isn't known yet. Also, the cause of the argument remains unclear.
The video has garnered over 37,000 shares so far and many have condemned the language war. On Twitter, some even pointed out that the term 'Vande Mataram' isn't Hindi but Bengali. Take a look at some of the tweets:
Recently, an all out language war erupted after Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep said Hindi is no longer the national language of India.
In a tweet written in Hindi, Devgn tagged Sudeep and said, "My brother, if according to you Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your movies in your mother tongue by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man."
