Now Pay Rs 10,000 Fine For Drunk Driving And Rs 1,000 For Riding Without A Helmet!
The Cabinet has approved changes in the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill and has revived the three-decade-old Act with new rules and fines.

In the changed bill, the penalty for drunk driving has been raised to Rs.10,000. And, if there is an accident where the drunk person is behind the wheels and a pedestrian is killed, the driver would then be booked for a non-bail able offence with imprisonment up to 10 years.

Drivers who don¡¯t wear a helmet while driving bikes and scooters would be fined Rs 1,000 and their licence would be cancelled for three months. Car owners who would handover their cars to juveniles would be fined up to Rs 25,000 with or without imprisonment up to three years.
The compensation to the victims of road accidents has been raised to Rs 10 lakh from the previous Rs 50,000 in case of death, and Rs 5 lakh from the earlier Rs 25,000 cap in case of serious injury. Learner¡¯s license would be granted through Aadhar-based verification.
