A trip to the Taj Mahal, the most visited monument in India and other UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Agra has now become a little more convenient.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the six-km-long Agra Metro Rail Service's 'priority corridor' between Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar.
Following this, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the Agra Metro service? and took the inaugural ride on the priority corridor the Taj Mahal Metro Station.
The 6 km long priority corridor connects the iconic Taj Mahal's eastern gate to the Mankameshwar Temple station, providing a vital transportation link for tourists and commuters alike.?
Metro stations in the priority corridor are Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta Metro Station, Fatehabad Road MS, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Mankameshwar Temple. While the first three stations will be elevated, the remaining three will be located underground.
Agra Metro service will start operating for the general public on March 7.
The operational timing for the Agra Metro will be from 6 am till 10 pm.
Ticket prices for the Agra Metro priority corridor have been set at Rs 10 for travelling between stations, Rs 20 for two stations, and Rs 30 for three to six stations.
The metro service is poised to serve Agra's 26 lakh residents and approximately 60 lakh tourists visiting the city annually.

The Agra Metro comprises two corridors, totalling 29.4 km, which will connect major railway stations, bus depots, colleges, markets, and prominent tourist destinations, providing seamless integration for residents and tourists.
With the inauguration of the priority corridor, Agra has become the 21st city in the country and the sixth in Uttar Pradesh to join the metro rail network.
In Uttar Pradesh, metro rail services are already operational in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and Kanpur.
