At a time when they are the most needed, an increasing number of medical and paramedical professionals across the country are getting sidelined every passing day. Ever since the COVID-19 cases began increasing rapidly in the country there is also a subsequent increase in the number of doctors and nurses who have tested positive for the infection while attending patients.?
From Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Indore and other cities across the country, each passing day more and more frontline workers are getting infected.?

Since then doctors and nurses at Bhatia Hospital, Khar Hinduja hospitals, and Shushrusha Hospital have all tested positive, which also has forced some of the hospitals too being shut or being declared a containment zone, dealing another blow to the already overburdened medical infrastructure.?
According to BMC, the 11 staffers from the Bhatia Hospital included nurses, taking the total number of personnel from the facility who have contracted the infection to 25.BMC authorities have shifted about 100 nurses and staffers of Sushrusha Hospital to the hostel of Ruparel College from the Rajiv Gandhi sports complex in Dharavi where they were quarantined after they complained about poor living conditions at the facility.?

In Indore, two doctors have died of COVID-19. Dr. Om Prakash Chauhan, a general physician, ran a private clinic in Indore's Marimata Chouraha area and had tested positive for the virus three days ago. He was admitted to Aurobindo Hospital and was on ventilator support. On Thursday, another doctor had died due to COVID-19 related complications. Dr. Shatrughan Panjwani, who had tested positive for the infection earlier this week, succumbed to it on Thursday.?
In most of the cases, the medical professionals got infected because they were forced to attend COVID-19 patients without properer personal protective equipment and in some cases the negligence of the hospital management to timely test and isolate their staff who had contracted the virus resulted in them passing it on to more colleagues. There are also other cases where people hide theIr travel/contact history to the doctors which got them exposed to the virus.
