Nursing students from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) experienced a startling revelation when they checked their exam results on Monday.?
Surprisingly, some students found their scores exceeded the total possible marks of 300. These results were for the BSc nursing second-semester exams conducted in January of this year.??
Talking to TOI, one of the students recounted his astonishment, "It was funny. Two students in my class got marks like 310 and 315 out of 300."
The anomaly was quickly brought to the attention of the university authorities, who then withheld the flawed results and later issued corrected ones.
A concerned parent expressed their child's experience, saying, "While a student had 275 marks, it dropped to 227 overnight. The grade had thankfully remained the same. Nevertheless, it was a big disappointment."?
According to the university's evaluation section, the error was caused by the accidental inclusion of some internal assessment marks in the final scores.?
"Marks of a subsidiary subject, which were not supposed to be part of the final tally, were added inadvertently. The grand total for students who had otherwise scored good marks was therefore more than the maximum marks. As soon as this was brought to our notice, the marks cards were withdrawn and corrected. New marks have been issued. I had a meeting with all college principals and ensured it's updated everywhere," explained RGUHS registrar (evaluation) Riyaz Basha.
Basha reassured that the correction of marks did not affect the students' overall result status.?
"All students who have passed continue to remain passed and those who have failed have failed. The grand total reduces but the final output of the results remains the same," he stated.
He also noted that this year marked the transition from an annual to a semester system, which contributed to the confusion.?
"This is the first time that we are moving from an annual system to a semester system. So there were some changes. Some parameters were not reflected in the marks for some students. That has also been corrected," Basha added.
