It is not a secret that creators will do whatever it takes to make their content go viral. Be it some silly antics or doing something controversial to gain some attention.
But a school teacher from Odisha took matters to a whole new level and resorted to outright criminal acts to make his wife's YouTube channel popular.
Jagannath Kar, who works as a government school teacher was arrested on Saturday for allegedly leaking question papers and sharing them on his wife's YouTube channel.
Kar who works as an assistant teacher at the Gopinath Jew Nodal Upper Primary (UP) school in Sridharpur village in Jajpur district is accused of leakage of question papers, which were earlier supplied by Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) for Class I to Class VIII examinations.
The question papers were then uploaded to ProAnswer, a YouTube channel that was run by his wife Rutupurna Pati.
Kar was allegedly trying to get his wife's YouTube channel more subscribers and make her videos monetisable.
According to YouTube's policy, a channel should have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past year to earn money from the videos.
The incident came to light after the OSEPA filed a police complaint on March 18 about the leaked question papers surfacing online.
During the investigation, the police initially arrested one Sameer Sahu, who also runs a similar YouTube channel, but later the law caught up with the husband-wife duo.
According to the police, Kar got his hands on the question papers as he had collected them on behalf of the school. Instead of taking them to the school, the 29-year-old took the question papers home and with the help of his wife made scanned copies of them.
These copies were later uploaded on the ProAnswer YouTube channel. According to the police the husband-wife duo's efforts had paid off as the channel's subscribers went from 5,000 to 30,000 after the question papers were uploaded.
