Thousands of students are protesing at Jamia Millia Islami after a pro-CAA man brandished a gun and open fired at students marching to Raj Ghat on Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. The man, who is now claimed to be a minor, has been identified as Rambhakt Gopal. He fired a shot and injured a student outside Jamia. The student has been admitted to a hospital and is recovering.
Crowd swelled at the varsity after the incident.
Ealrier today, protesters breached a portion of the barricading near Jamia Millia Islamia University as the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) continued near the campus.
Police put up barricades to stop protestors from moving ahead on a march. Some protestors, including girls, had earlier climbed the barricades and shouted slogans.
Earlier in the day, a Jamia Millia Islamia student was injured after a person opened fire in Jamia area where anti-CAA protests were going on.
The injured- Shadab Farooq, a student of the second semester of MA Mass Communication sustained injuries in his left hand. He has been referred to the AIIMS trauma centre.
Swaraj Abhiyan's Yogendra Yadav has been detained by the Delhi Police from the Delhi Gate where protesters had formed a human chain against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).
Meanwhile, leaders of Left parties including Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury had also formed a human chain in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act outside the Rajghat today.
Protests are being held in different parts of the national capital including?Jamia?Nagar over the contentious act, which was passed by parliament last year.
