Life took an unexpected turn for Javed Ahmad Tak, a young boy from Bijbehara town in South Kashmir in 1997.
The then 21-year-old B.Sc final year student was seriously injured when he was hit by a bullet during a militant attack.
Tak who was shot on the spine also suffered damages on his kidney, pancreas and intestines was hospitalized for nearly a year and even after that, he continued to be bedridden.
In his 40s now, Tak still needs a wheelchair to get around, but that has not stopped him from making an impact and bringing positive changes to many more like him.
After his discharge from the hospital, Tak began providing free education to poor orphans physically challenged and other underprivileged students.
Later it grew into Humanity Welfare organization, an NGO which started collecting used books, uniform, stationery items to help the underprivileged and also fighting for the protection of the rights of disabled.?
The NGO was set up with Rs 75000/-, the about Tak received as ex-gratia relief from the government, against his disability.
Humanity welfare organisation HELP Line also set up a school for disabled children called Zaiba Aapa Institute of Inclusive Education at Bijbehara in Anantnag.?

It started in a rented facility in 2008 with just 4 students with different disabilities. The school has since grown and currently has over 120 students with different disabilities studying there.
Other than this, Tak has also helped to implemented projects for child-friendly spaces in more than villages in Anantnag and Pulwama.
?Tak who is an active campaigner for the rights of the disabled also helps them by arranging aids like wheel chairs, crutches, walking sticks, smart canes, etc.
