Price of around 800 drugs to be affected
The price hike will affect the retail price of around 800 drugs in the National List of Essential Medicines, as per?an Economic Times report,?
The list includes nearly all the essential medicines, from those needed for COVID management to ORS and disinfectant. This means the rise in the price of drugs will significantly impact people's budgets.?

Crackdown on pharmaceutical companies?
Meanwhile, in a massive crackdown on drug makers on Tuesday, the government of India cancelled the licenses of eighteen pharmaceutical companies for manufacturing spurious medicines following an inspection by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on 76 companies across 20 States.?

Additionally, 26 other companies were issued show cause notices, most of which operate out of Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
