In yet another case of hit-and-run in Pune, a 21-year-old delivery agent of an online food delivery platform was killed and three others were injured by a speeding luxury car in the city in the early hours of Friday. Rauf Shaikh, who was returning home after delivering his last food order for the day, was hit by a speeding Audi car near Koregaon Park in Pune around 1:30 am on Friday.??
Shaikh, who was riding his two-wheeler, was hit from behind, causing him to fall in front of the car. The Audi ran over him, and the driver fled the spot.??
Later, it emerged that the Audi had knocked down three others who were travelling on a two-wheeler while trying to overtake it. Though none of the three occupants of the first two-wheeler were seriously hurt, the driver of the Audi tried to speed away from the spot, and in the process, also hit Shaikh, who was a few metres ahead.??
During the investigation, the police managed to identify the vehicle involved, and the owner of the Audi car (MH12 NE 4464) was arrested from his residence in Magarpatta in Hadapsar. According to the police, the owner of the car is 34-year-old Ayush Tayal, who is a senior executive in a private firm in Pune.??
Police suspect that Tayal was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the two-wheelers.??
¡°We have collected his blood sample and the same has been sent to Sassoon hospital for a blood alcohol test," the police said.??
Tayal has been booked under sections 105 (culpable homicide), 281 (rash driving), 125(a), which refers to an act endangering life or personal safety of others, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and sections 184 (driving dangerously) and other relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
