Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi who is also the lawyer of the Tatas had however rubbished the calims.
He said that there was no rule preventing Tata from continuing as the Chairman in 2012 at the age of 75 as there was no age-limit set for the post.
"No law required Ratan Tata to step down at the age of 75. He did so on the basis of a self-imposed limitation. Second, in his status as emeritus chairman, the rules entitled him to attend board meetings whenever he wanted, but he has not attended a single meeting virtually," Singhvi told The Times Of India.
He also added that Mr Tata will be the interim chairman of the company for a maximum period of three months, until the new chairman is selected.?
