The current job market is tough, there are no two ways about it. Freshers, including those graduating from some of the most renowned colleges in the country, are finding it difficult to get jobs.?
This has also meant that just to land a job, people are willing to work more and for lesser pay.
Rajesh Sawhney, the founder and CEO of GSF Accelerator has spoken about one such case that he recently came across where an intern was getting a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000.
Sawhney criticized said he was at the Le Meridien Hotel in Gurugram for a startup meeting when he came across an intern.
"A young lobby manager approached me with an intent to help¡we got chatting a bit. This boy is from Dehradoon, a graduate from the local catering college and interning for the last 3 months," Sawhney wrote on X.
While speaking to the intern, Sawhney was shocked to learn that the young boy was getting Rs 2000 per month as a stipend.
"Le Meridian pays him just Rs 2000/- per month. This is disgusting..how can he even survive in this amount in Gurugram," he said adding that they are sucking the blood out of such young interns.
The post soon went viral and many agreed with him.
"Many are interning for free in industries like retail, many startups just pay travel expense," one person wrote.
"This guy from Dehradoon has clearly chosen the wrong industry to pursue a career in. Too much work for too little pay," said another.
"did u miss a zero ? this is pathetic need for indian industry standards And they charge a bomb in the name of service fee," another person wrote.
While others argued that it was the cost of getting to learn.
"Well if you wish to learn and you are not paying that is good enough," one person wrote.
