The coronavirus pandemic has has not only brought upon one of the biggest health crisis in decades, but it has also made people obnoxious. There is undoubtedly fear which has resulted in people being insensitive towards others.
In a very upsetting incident, an 80-year-old woman was allegedly not allowed into their house in Telangana's Karimnagar by her sons out of coronavirus fear as she returned from Maharashtra, the worst-hit by the disease in India.? ?
The woman had on Friday returned from Sholapur in Maharashtra after a stay at her relatives' house in the wake of relaxations in lockdown norms, but her elder son and his wife did not allow her into the house, PTI reported quoting Edla Ashok, a division member of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation.
The elderly woman explained that she was healthy and not a COVID-19 patient, but her son did not relent, Ashok said.
The woman's younger son had locked his house and gone away out of fear of the virus as she returned from Maharashtra, the civic official told PTI
On the intervention of the member and the neighbours, the mother was accepted by her elder son.
However, the civic official said the senior citizen would be subjected to a coronavirus test, and in case of any symptoms, she would be put in a quarantine ward.
Meanwhile, for the second day running , the number of daily coronavirus cases in India hit a new high. The states registered 7,964 new cases in last 24 hours. The total number of?coronavirus cases in India?surged to 173,763.?
Maharashtra continued to record the highest number of fresh cases in a single day. Several other states including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttarakhand also witnessed a huge spike in daily COVID-19 count.
India also recorded the biggest spike in death toll related to coronavirus infection. At least 265 new deaths were reported in last 24 hours. The total number of fatalities due to?COVID-19 infection?rose to 4,971. Maharashtra alone accounted for 50% of the total fatalities in India.
