With torrential rains bringing life to a grinding halt across Mumbai, thousands are stranded on roads, railway platforms, and offices across the city. With little warning received from the civic authorities or meteorological department, Mumbaikars seem pretty shaken with the rain assault the city is under.
People are leaving the safety of their offices and leaving as there is much confusion about the railway services resuming. However, the Western and Central railway¡¯s twitter profiles are giving regular updates about the situation. So far, the services between Churchgate and Andheri have been suspended for the second time in the day. Western Railway has hinted that services may resume from 8:30 pm onwards.
BMC is requesting citizens to not leave their offices in case they are stuck there. With the city experiencing flooding, people out of offices are reporting being stranded for hours at railway stations, and cab services aren't being of much help.
Rumours have been doing rounds that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a state of emergency in the city. However, this seems to be only a rumour as the civic body claims to have the situation under control.
There are also messages circulating on Whatsapp that if the rain does not stop, the electricity in major parts of the city will be cut off, which is untrue.
Some local TV channels have reported that BMC has declared emergency, but the civic authorities have claimed that it is not so. Reports also suggest that the BMC has brought out boats in order to rescue people in low-lying flooded areas.
