Tamil Nadu is set for a massive boost in its road network with the construction of 963 km of four-lane national highways over the next two years. This development aims to improve road connectivity and ease traffic congestion across the state.
Reports suggest that the number of toll plazas on the Tamil Nadu Highway will rise from 72 to 90 due to these new projects. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is overseeing the initiative, expanding the state¡¯s national highway (NH) network from 2,735 km to 3,698 km. The estimated cost for these four-lane highways is around Rs 20,000 crore.

According to New Indian Express reports, Tamil Nadu has collected Rs 26,000 crore in toll revenue from its national highways over the last ten years. Out of eight major NH projects, six four-lane projects are expected to be finished within a year.

The 963-km Tamil Nadu NH project is advancing at a good pace, with 767 km expected to be operational within a year. The Dindigul-Pollachi four-lane NH stretch (131.9 km) is almost finished, and the Oddanchatram-Madathukulam section is already in use with a toll plaza at Chatrapatti.
Work on the remaining sections of the Dindigul-Pollachi NH is also progressing rapidly. The Kamalapuram (Dindigul)-Oddanchatram and Madathukulam-Pollachi sections will soon be completed.
New toll plazas at Paraipatti and Gomangalam are also expected to be operational in the near future, making travel more efficient and well-regulated across Tamil Nadu.
