Mumbai University (MU) will soon introduce a 'temple management' course in collaboration with the Oxford Centre for Hindu studies. The Centre for Hindu Studies and the Department of Sanskrit at the university have signed an MoU with the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies for the same.?
The launch of this new course is in accordance with the National Education Policy¡¯s emphasis on the inclusion of the Indian knowledge system (IKS) in the curricula of institutions of higher learning.?
The temple management course will emphasise on practical application of management principles in well-known temples like ISKCON, Shegaon¡¯s Gajanan Maharaj Temple, and Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust.?
The course's focus will be on the comprehensive study of Hindu philosophy.?
"Some (temple) are managing electricity by making use of solar-operated systems, some are making use of flowers offered by devotees to make incense sticks, which is also creating employment opportunities, some have started using technology to manage queues , there are books written on these practices, which can be used as references," said a university official, as quoted by TOI.?
The 'temple management' course at Mumbai University will be a six-month certificate programme which will be offered online as well as offline.?
It would incorporate certificate and diploma courses. In the future, the institution may expand it to a postgraduate diploma or an MBA degree based on student desire and job prospects.?
The curriculum will be designed by the Centre for Hindu Studies and the Department of Sanskrit, working together with the Oxford Centre.?
The course will be created with assistance from the university¡¯s two management schools, the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and the Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute.Ravikant Sangurde and Madhavi Narsale have been assigned as the university¡¯s co-ordinators for this programme.?
The Indian Knowledge System is an innovation unit within the Ministry of Education (MoE) based at AICTE.?
It was established in October 2020 with the aim of encouraging multidisciplinary study on all facets of IKS.?
The unit seeks to disseminate India's rich cultural heritage among all, including traditional knowledge in the fields of literature, art, and agriculture, basic sciences, engineering, and technology, among many other areas.?
