These Breathing And Chest Exercises Will Help You Regain Strength During COVID

Due to the damage caused by COVID-19 to the lungs and other organs, the body takes time to recover and get back to its former state. You should reach out an occupational therapist for help in adjusting to your new energy levels and limitations.

Breathing Exercise

Self- Awake Proning:

1. 30 minutes- 2 hours: laying on your belly. If patient is on oxygensupport then oxygen should not be removed in this position, turnhead to left/ right side & continue O2support. Place the pillowsunder the head, chest and pelvis for support but abdomen shouldnot be compressed.
2. 30 minutes- 2 hours: laying onyour left side
3. 30 minutes- 2 hours: sitting up
4. 30 minutes- 2 hours: laying onyour left side
5. Then go back to position 1: lyingon your belly

Pranayam- Alternate Nostril Breathing:?

1. Close the right nostril withthumb. Breath in left nostril –4 count
2. Close the left nostril as well andretain the breath to a count of16
3. Release the right nostril andexhale fully through it to acount of 8
4. Keeping the left nostril closed, inhale through the right to a count of 4
5. Close both nostrils and retain the breath to a count of 16
6. Release the left nostril and exhale to a count of 8 to complete

Chest Exercise

Incentive Spirometry:

• Put the mouthpiece in your mouth andclose your lips tightly around it. Do notblock the mouthpiece with your tongue?
• Inhale slowly and deeply through themouthpiece to raise the indicator. Try tomake the indicator rise up to the level ofthe goal marker.?
• When you cannot inhale any longer,remove the mouthpiece and hold yourbreath for at least 3 seconds?
