Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of our country, calls for turning the country into Clean India (Swachh Bharat) gathered steam. PM Modi launched the ambitious 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' (Clean India Mission) 2nd October 2014 to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of cities, towns, urban and rural areas.
The success of the whole exercise seems futile when a truck filled with tonnes of garbage is seen dumping into a river in Tamil Nadu.Videos of of lorry loads of garbage being dumped into a river near Tittakudi town of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu recently went viral, prompting authorities to suspend a panchayat official.?
Local people posted a video of the incident and sent a clip to district collector Anbuselvan following which Gunasekaran,the executive officer of the Thittakudi town panchayat, was placed under suspension, officials said.
In the footage, garbage trucks are seen at the middle of a bridge linking Thittakudi and Ariyalur and the rubbish being tipped into the Vellaru river, brimming following the monsoon rains.
Locals protested the incident but the officials allegedly took no action following which the video was posted, sources said.
Meanwhile, Tirunelveli corporation officials have received complaints about hospital waste being dumped along the main road in the city.
People have sought action against those who dumped such waste on the roadside.
This is not the first time authorities have been dumping garbage at places where they shouldn't be. Recently, a video from Mumbai surfaced on the Internet, which shows a garbage vehicle dumping the garbage into a river and that too in full public view like it's the most natural thing to do and there's nothing wrong with it. The incident is reportedly of Bhiwandi area of Thane district which comes under the area jurisdiction of Shelar Gram Panchayat.
The man making the video and the sanitation worker can be seen having an argument in Marathi, with the former telling the worker that he is recording the whole incident and worker telling him off. The worker then asks him to do his own work to which the man replies that, that is what he is doing.
