Two men on daring adventure who had obtained travel pass were arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday on charges of possessing cocaine.
The men had obtained inter-state pass during the COVID-19 lockdown and gone to Bengaluru under the pretext of selling face masks but had procured cocaine from a Nigerian there, Assistant Excise (Enforcement) Superintendent N Anjireddy told PTI.?
Based on reliable inputs, a team of Excise sleuths intercepted the car in which they were travelling in Hyderabad's Secunderabad and seized 54 grams of cocaine from the duo in the age group of 30-34, Anjireddy added.
They had purchased 70 grams of cocaine for Rs 7,000 per gram and returned to Hyderabad on May 30 and had already consumed 16 grams.
A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the duo. Besides the cocaine, two cars were also seized from them.
Meanwhile, the total number of?coronavirus cases?in India has risen to 2,07,615 according to figures released by Health Ministry today, while recoveries have gone past one lakh mark. The death toll has gone up to 5,815. In past 24 hours, 8,909 fresh cases and 217 deaths were reported.?
The Health Ministry said that there were 1,01,497 active covid cases in the country while 1,00,302 have recovered. The recovery rate has improved further to 48.31%.
The nationwide tally of confirmed?COVID-19 cases?crossed the 2-lakh mark today with almost one lakh people testing positive for the dreaded virus infection in the last 15 days.
According to the health ministry data updated today morning, Maharashtra has reported 72,300 cases so far, followed by Tamil Nadu (24,586), and Delhi (22,132).
