The Unnao rape victim, who was severely injured in the car accident in Raebareilly, has developed pnuemonia as her condition remains critical.?
King George's Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre in-charge Dr Sandeep Tiwari told IANS that the 19-year-old girl is on ventilator or life support system since the last six days and has now developed pneumonia. A team of doctors is keeping her under continuous observation.
"Any patient who is kept on ventilator for several days starts showing symptoms of pneumonia. This is why she developed pneumonia. Her condition remains the same as before," Dr Tiwari said.
The rape survivor has multiple broken bones and wounds in her chest. Her condition has improved slightly but it cannot be considered satisfactory.
"Due to the accident, the victim lost about one-and-a-half litres of blood. After being brought to hospital, she had to be administered 10 units of blood. The biggest challenge for the doctors now is to take her off the ventilator. Blood has also been drained out of her lungs," IANS reported.
Doctors said that the girl has sustained injuries and fractures in her jaw, ribs and thigh.?
Lawyer Mahendra Singh, who was in the car with the girl when the accident took place, has shown major improvements and has been taken off ventilator.
The accident took place on Sunday, July 28, when a speeding truck crashed into the car in which the Unnao rape survivor was travelling with her relatives and lawyer.?
Following protests, an FIR has been registered against the MLA for murder, along with 29 others for plot to kill Unnao rape survivor.
Also, the government has vowed to bear all the medical expenses of the survivor and promised best treatment to her.
