Yet another shocking case of sexual assault has come up in Uttar Pradesh where a 19-year-old girl was gangraped and strangled on September 14 in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.
The survivor is currently battling for her life in a hospital in Aligarh where she has been put on ventilator support.
The condition of the teenager is said to be stable now but she is still in the ICU.
Police recorded her statement on Tuesday. She stated that the accused sexually assaulted her on September 14 when she had gone to gather fodder for her animals.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the survivor¡¯s brother, police had earlier registered a case against a man, identified as Sandeep, for attempt to murder and under sections of the SC/ST Act, said a report by Times Now.
After recording her statement, police added gangrape charges to the FIR and booked three more people.
In her statement to the magistrate soon after, the survivor identified the accused as Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi.?
So far, police have arrested two of the four accused and efforts are on to nab others, according to a report by The Times of India.
The accused had been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and later charged with gang-rape under section 376 D, Hathras ASP Prakash Kumar said. He added that the case will be tried by a fast-track court.
