A thick layer of fog returned to Delhi on Friday morning, once again disrupting flight and rail operations in the national capital.
Delhi had witnessed a reduction in the fog cover on Thursday, following overnight rains.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Friday morning a layer of fog shrouded isolated areas of Delhi and East Uttar Pradesh, while dense fog was observed in isolated pockets of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.
The fog cover has also resulted in reduced visibility across the national capital on Friday morning.?
The visibility recorded at 5:30 am on Friday was 25 metres in Delhi¡¯s Palam and 50 metres in Safdarjung.?
The Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday issued an advisory informing that flight operations at the airport may be affected due to the fog.
"Due to dense Fog, flight operations at Delhi Airport may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," the advisory said.
Delhi Airport authorities said that while landings and takeoffs continue at the airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may be affected. Hence, passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.
Meanwhile, the Minimum Temperature recorded in Delhi on Friday was 12.3 degrees in Safdarjung area. Dense fog has been predicted for Saturday in Delhi while Rain and drizzle are expected over the weekend.
Delhi had received widespread rains on Wednesday, with the city's main weather station, Safdarjung, recording 26.5 mm of precipitation between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm on Thursday. The national capital recorded 0.6 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Thursday.
The Weather department has predicted another Western Disturbance on Saturday, which could result in more rain.
The rains also brought a significant improvement in the air quality on Thursday.
Delhi's air quality significantly improved to the 'Moderate' category with an AQI of 177 from the 386 recorded a day earlier.
