Olympian boxer Vijender Singh who has been a vocal supporter of the ongoing farmers' protests at the Delhi border on Friday joined them at one of the sit-in venues.
Singh volunteered at the protest site and distributed food at langar organised by Jamindara Student Organization (JSO) for protesting farmers at Tikri Border in Delhi.?
"We are here to serve the farmers of our country. Our fight is not against the government but the 3 black laws," he said.
The Haryana-born 2008 Beijing Olympics Bronze Medalist had earlier said that he will return all his honours including the Khel Ratna Award if the farmers' demands were not met.
The boxer made the announcement earlier this month while addressing thousands of farmers protesting at Singhu border on the Delhi-Chandigarh route.
Singh, who turned professional in 2015 had also unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections for Congress in Delhi last year.
Recently, he had also questioned the silence of Bollywood on the farmers' protest and called them spineless.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting on the outskirts of Delhi since November 26 demanding that the government repeal the newly enacted farm laws. The farmers have been camping at several border points into Delhi for three weeks, demanding that the new farm laws be repealed as they claim it would benefit the corporates and end the traditional wholesale markets and the minimum support price regime.
The government has held six rounds of talks with farmers' organisations including a meeting called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah offering changes to the laws and written assurances.
