Former wrestler Vinesh Phogat has accused Indian Olympic Association president, PT Usha, of playing politics in the aftermath of her controversial disqualification at the Paris Olympics 2024. Vinesh, who recently ventured into politics, said she did not get any support from the IOA in Paris after she was disqualified just before the final for being overweight by 100 grams.
Vinesh's exhaustive efforts throughout the night to bring her weight to 50kg had taken a toll on her, and she had to be admitted to a hospital. A photo of IOA President Usha meeting Vinesh and apparently consoling the disheartened wrestler had gone viral on social media.

However, according to Vinesh, Usha was playing politics with the photo op.??
"PT Usha Madam visited me at the hospital. One photo was clicked... Like you said, in politics, a lot happens behind closed doors. Similarly, politics happened there (in Paris) as well. That's why I was heartbroken," Vinesh said in a recent interview.
According to her, the photo was clicked without her knowledge and was posted on social media to push a certain narrative.
"You are on a hospital bed, where you don't know what's happening in life outside. You are going through one of the worst phases of your life. At that place, just to show everyone you are standing with me, you clicked a photo without telling me and then put it on social media to say you are standing with me. That's not how you show support," Vinesh said.
It should be recalled that immediately after Vinesh's disqualification, the IOA had issued a statement on behalf of Usha, which many felt was aimed at blaming the athlete while shielding the contingent's medical team.
Usha, one of India's most famous track and field athletes, has been a BJP member since 2014. She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 and, later in the same year, was appointed as the first woman president of the Indian Olympic Association.
