A video has gone viral on social media showing a group of passengers pushing the coach of a Mumbai local train to save the life of a fellow commuter who was trapped under the wheels.
The incident took place at Vashi station in Navi Mumbai on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, the man had fallen into the narrow gap between the train and the platform.
CCTV footage shows the man, who was leaning on the platform's edge, being dragged by the train for a few metres, before it came to a halt.?
In a video that was shot by an onlooker and posted on Reddit, dozens of passengers were seen pushing the train carriage away from the platform to free him.
In the 41-second video clip, commuters are seen coming together near the motorman's cabin of the local train and pushing the local train coach to one side to rescue the trapped person.
While the passengers managed to pull the trapped man out, he had sustained several injuries.
According to PTI, the man who sustained grievous injuries died later.
In June last year, a senior ticket collector saved the life of a 73-year-old woman, who fell while boarding a moving train at Wadala station in Mumbai and got dragged by the train.
The local trains, which are also the lifeline of Mumbai have a terrible track record when it comes to passenger safety.
In 2022, a total of 2,507 people had died in accidents on Mumbai local trains, out of which around 700 had died from falling off moving trains.
