The whole of India is facing severe water crisis. Most of the states either have less or no access to potable water. People are fighting amongst themselves to get their share of water. One such tragic incident has been reported from Trichy in Tamil Nadu where a 33-year-old activist who also operated an overhead tank was beaten to death by four members of a family in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. His only fault was his objection to their drawing water in huge plastic barrels from a public tap. The accused have been arrested by the police and investigations are on.

The deceased, D Anand Babu, is a resident of Vilar South colony near Thanjavur. Kumar, 48, who lived in the area, was filling water from the tap onto his plastic barrels from a nearby overhead tank with his three sons.
On witnessing this, Anand Babu asked Kumar whether collecting such huge quantum of water for his family was right given the paucity of water in the locality.
The conversation took an ugly turn and things got out of hand. Kumar and his three sons aged 22, 21 and a teenager, allegedly thrashed Anand Babu mercilessly and hacked him with deadly weapons, police said.
On seeing his son being thrashed black and blule, Anand's father Dharmaraj, 67, rushed to his rescue but the senior citizen was also thrashed by Kumar and his three sons.
