It has been a week since a devastating landslide hit parts of Kerala's hill district of Wayanad. More than 350 people have been killed, thousands have been displaced, and many more are still unaccounted for¡ªa week after the worst natural disaster in Kerala's history. With one week passing, the hope of finding more survivors is slowly fading, and the focus is turning toward the rehabilitation of the thousands of survivors who have lost their loved ones and a lifetime's worth of savings.
People from Kerala and beyond, including celebrities, are chipping in with their contributions to rebuild Wayanad. While big donations from celebrities and industrialists have made headlines, there are many small yet equally praiseworthy contributions.

Adav, a Class I student from Kerala's Idukki District, is one such individual who, despite his young age, is receiving praise for his compassion. Idukki District Collector, V. Vigneshwari IAS, recently shared the boy's story on her official Facebook page.
According to the 2015 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer, Adav, a Class I student, learned about the devastating landslide in Wayanad from TV and newspapers. He recently visited the Collector's Office with his piggy bank, which contained his savings from gifts and pocket money. Adav wanted to donate his piggy bank savings to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
"I felt very happy... Kindness, compassion, and the attitude to help are also in the blood of the new generation," the IAS officer wrote in her post.

The entire villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Attamala were washed away in the landslide on July 30. According to district officials, as many as 2,514 people belonging to 723 families are currently housed in relief camps. Among them, 943 are men, 972 are women, and 599 are children.
