The helpline number of Mumbai Traffic Police on Friday night received a series of text messages from a Pakistani number, warning 26/11-like terror attacks in the city.
The text messages, sent to the WhatsApp helpline number of Mumbai Traffic Police warned a "26/11-like" attack by six persons and "preparations are on to blow up" the city.
The sender, reportedly identified himself as a Pakistani and claimed that there are a few in India who are helping him to carry out the attack. He also shared some mobile numbers.
"What if Osama bin Laden, Ajmal Kasab or Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed, there are many more,"?the message said further.
Though the Mumbai Police has ruled out the possibly of a threat as stated in the messages, a probe has been launched to identify the sender.
This development comes a day after a boat carrying AK 47, rifles, guns and ammunition was found on the Harihareshwar beach in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The UK-flagged 53-feet-long yacht 'MY Lady Han', owned by an Australian couple, was found stuck by some fishermen who informed the authorities.
The speedboat had suffered an engine failure in the high seas on June 26 and the crew on board were rescued by a Korean warship.
Later, after drifting in the Arabian Sea for 52 days, it finally washed up on Harihareshwar Beach on Thursday afternoon.
Dubai-based Neptune P2P Group which claimed to have provided security to the yacht in June 2022 said that it was damaged during monsoon, an emergency was declared, the crew members were rescued though they could not salvage the vessel owing to extreme weather conditions.
The yacht was slated to sail from Oman to Europe with its owner Hannah Laundergun and her husband James Robert sailing it, along with at least one unidentified crew member, when the mishap took place.
Earlier this week, the Mumbai police had arrested a jeweller, Bishnu Vidu Bhoumik, for allegedly calling up the landline number of Reliance Foundation Hospital and threatening to kill Mukesh Ambani and his family members.
Bhoumik, who runs a jewellery shop in south Mumbai, was apprehended from suburban Dahisar on Monday.
Bhoumik had made nine calls on the landline number of Reliance Foundation Hospital in Girgaon and threatened to kill Ambani and also hurled abuses, the official said.
As per the preliminary investigation, Bhoumik is a repeat offender who had made similar calls in the past.
