As the entire nation pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, a photo from a tribute event is going viral on social media, for all the wrong reasons.
The photo of a welcome gate from Lakshadweep, for an event to unveil a statue of the Mahatma that will be attended by Defence Minister has the photos of Rajnath Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Khoda Patel on it, and conspicuously missing is an image of Gandhi himself.
This is how many on Twitter reacted to the photo.
Earlier, on Friday, the Lakshadweep administration said in a statement that Defence minister Rajnath Singh will unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Kavaratti island which will be the first-ever statue to be unveiled in the islands to commemorate the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India¡¯s independence.
It is a historic milestone for Lakshadweep. The precursor to the Gandhi Jayanti celebration started with education fests and sports competitions that began in all the islands on Sept 26, said district collector S Asker Ali in the statement.
The celebration will culminate with the ¡®Lokarpan Ceremony¡¯ of the statue, followed by a gathering for which Singh will be the chief guest.
