Thushara Ajith, a woman entrepreneur from Kerala who had earlier this year launched what was described as the state's first non-halal eatery has alleged that she was attacked by a group of other food vendors.
Thushara claimed that she was to open her second eatery in Kochi this Monday, but had received threats from other vendors who allegedly opposed her use of the no halal sticker and serving pork dishes on the menu.
In a Facebook video, Thushara alleged that people opposed to her no-halal restaurant had also stolen furniture from her new eatery, for which she had filed a police complaint.
According to reports, Thushara and her husband Ajith along with a couple of associates confronted some nearby eatery owners, on Sunday evening, following which both sides have suffered injures and are hospitalised.
Police said the Thushara and her associates had an argument with one Nakul, another eatery owner after her associates allegedly removed a chat kiosk near the restaurant.
The argument later turned into a brawl and a friend of Nakul, Vinoj George also got involved.
The duo and Thushara have reportedly sustained injuries during the confrontation.
In the video, Thushara alleged that the two men who attacked her had not taken the shop for rent as they had claimed and was there to harass her on the behest of others.
Police have booked Thushara, her husband Ajith, and two unidentified accomplices under IPC 326 (voluntarily causing grievous injury by dangerous weapons) based on a complaint filed by Nakul and Vinoj.
In January, Thushara had opened Nandu's Kitchen, an eatery in Kochi, of which the USP was it served fish and meat items which are non-halal.
She also had a 'no halal - halal food is banned' sticker in front of her eatery.
The new striker was in response to the halal sign that is a common sight in restaurants across Kerala.
