US Vice-President JD Vance is currently on a four-day trip to India with his wife Usha Vance and their three children. On the first night of their visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a family dinner for them at his official residence in New Delhi. Vance shared that the warmth of the evening left a big impact on his children ¡ª especially his eldest son, Ewan.
¡°My son, Ewan, is seven-years-old. After the dinner at the Prime Minister's House, the food was so good and the Prime Minister was so kind that Ewan told me, ¡®Dad, maybe I can live in India,¡¯¡± Vance told the audience during an event in Jaipur.
Vance also recalled that this wasn¡¯t the first time PM Modi had made a special gesture toward his children. During a visit to Paris in February this year, when the two leaders were attending the AI Action Summit, PM Modi surprised the Vance family with a birthday gift for their son, Vivek.
¡°He figured out that my second son, Vivek, was turning five and actually came to where we were staying, wished him a happy birthday and brought him a gift,¡± said Vance. ¡°This was during a major international summit, and he still made time for us. My wife and I were genuinely touched.¡±
The Vice-President added that since arriving in India, they have been ¡°even more impressed by Modi¡¯s warmth.¡±
JD Vance also made an observation that connected both politics and parenting. He said that as a politician, his children have ended up meeting many world leaders, but only two of them left a strong impression ¡ª Donald Trump and Narendra Modi.
¡°Kids are brutally honest, whether you want them to be or not,¡± he said. ¡°Our seven-year-old, five-year-old and three-year-old daughter Mirabelle have really only built a rapport with two world leaders ¡ª President Trump and Prime Minister Modi. They both have a certain energy that kids seem to like.¡±
Vance¡¯s son Ewan may have loved the idea of living in India after dinner with Modi, but the Jaipur heat made him rethink. The Vice-President joked about their visit to the historical Amer Fort, saying, ¡°After 90 minutes in the Jaipur sun, he suggested maybe we should move to England.¡±
The family explored several sites in Jaipur, including the Amer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Speaking on PM Modi¡¯s leadership, Vance said, ¡°He is a serious leader, who has thought deeply about India¡¯s prosperity and security¡ªnot just for his current term, but for the next hundred years.¡±
With light moments, personal reflections, and praise for Modi¡¯s gestures, JD Vance¡¯s visit is not only about diplomacy ¡ª it¡¯s also about building a human connection across borders.
