Former BJP state president and ex-MP Dilip Ghosh is set to tie the knot on Friday at his residence in New Town, Kolkata. This quiet marriage is a major personal shift for the senior leader, who has remained unmarried until now.
The bride-to-be is Rinku Majumdar. Their connection developed through party work. According to those close to Ghosh, Rinku first brought up the idea of marriage after his defeat in the last Lok Sabha elections, a time when he was reportedly feeling low. She expressed her wish to be with him, noting that he had no one by his side.
Although Ghosh initially declined, he eventually agreed after giving it some thought and after being persuaded by his mother. Until a few months ago, he reportedly had no intention of settling down, but later felt that starting a family would complete a phase of his life. As per the reports, a clear decision was made on April 3, while watching a KKR IPL match at Eden Gardens. Ghosh, Rinku, and members of her family were present in box number 11 of the club house that evening.
When asked directly by a media outlet, Ghosh responded by questioning why he shouldn¡¯t marry, asking if it was a crime. On Thursday evening, BJP leaders Sunil Bansal and Satish Dhond were expected to visit his home from Delhi to offer early congratulations.
The ceremony is expected to be a small, private affair at Ghosh¡¯s home. Ghosh prefers simple events, so only close friends and family will attend. Rinku is divorced, a homemaker, and has an adult son who works in the IT sector in Sector V. He was also present at Eden Gardens on April 3.
As per the reports, Ghosh¡¯s mother had long wanted her son to marry and settle down. Living with her son, she hopes to now spend time with a daughter-in-law. Ghosh's mother will continue to live with them.?
Within BJP circles, there had been quiet speculation about Ghosh¡¯s personal plans, but nothing was confirmed. Since Ghosh didn¡¯t inform anyone directly, the matter remained under wraps. Now, with the wedding confirmed, it remains to be seen whether any formal celebration or social gathering will follow¡ªthough Ghosh is known to avoid grand events.
