Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the new buzzword and everyone wants to add the two letters to whatever they are doing, just to make it sound cool. While Chat GPT and other similar large language models (LLMs) can perform some incredible things, they are far from being reliable, at least in their current form.
But that hasn't stopped people from trying out AI, just to create some buzz around what they are doing. But can AI help pick a Cricket team? Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi definitely thinks so.
He suggested that the team for the upcoming Champions Cup, a domestic tournament would be picked using AI.
"We had a lot of players for which we didn't have records. This Cup will make domestic cricket strong, we'll have a pool of 150 players," he said.
"These 150 players that have been selected, 80% of it has been done by AI, and 20% using humans. Nobody can challenge that. We gave about 20% weightage to our selection committee," Naqvi said further.
Naqvi was reacting to the Pakistan team's shock defeat to Bangladesh in the first Test.
Naqvi insisted that things will change in Pakistan cricket and will not remain the same.
"Remember my words that things will not remain the same and a lot is happening in the background," he said without giving details.
However, Naqvi's comments have not gone down well with former players and fans, who questioned his knowledge of cricket.
Former Pakistan batter Ahmad Shahzad?took to his social media platform, X, to express his disappointment.
He slammed Naqvi, stating that the?PCB?chief lacked the cricketing insight needed to lead Pakistan's cricket revival.
