The tension mounted as Dhoni faced three dot balls in the 20th over delivered by Arshdeep Singh. Despite initiating the over with a boundary through the covers, Dhoni encountered difficulty with a?couple of?slower deliveries from the left-arm pacer. However, in the third legal delivery of the final over, Dhoni struck a shot?to deep cover, prompting Mitchell to initiate a run.

Surprisingly, Dhoni appeared disinterested in taking the run, leading Mitchell to sprint to the other end and hastily return to the?non-striker’s?end before the fielder could retrieve the ball and throw it back,?causing confusion.

Although Dhoni redeemed himself on the fifth ball of the over by smashing Arshdeep for a?huge?six over deep extra cover, his actions drew criticism from fans on social media, with some branding it as?‘selfish’.

Commenting on the incident, one user on?‘X’?said,?“There?are?very few batters in the last?3?years who have scored runs consistently in all?3?formats. Mitchell is probably the best among them.?Didn’t?like him being denied the strike,?he is not a tailender.”

Another echoed similar sentiments, stating,?“MS Dhoni refusing a single in the 20th over with Daryl Mitchell at the other end. Embarrassing stuff,”?while?a third user remarked,?“Never seen more selfish batsman than?dhoni.”

Meanwhile, Dhoni faced a rare run-out in the match, losing his wicket for the first time this season as CSK posted 162/7 on the board. On the other hand, Punjab Kings had a comfortable victory chasing the target, reaching 163 with over?2?overs to spare.
