The Trump Organisation officially announced its entry into the telecom sector with a new smartphone and mobile network branded as Trump Mobile. Launched on Monday, 16 June 2025, the service features a $499 smartphone made in America and a monthly subscription priced at $47.45. The announcement was made at Trump Tower in New York by Donald Trump Jr., who stated the service aims to offer conservative consumers a domestic alternative to existing telecom giants.
The mobile network is expected to include U.S.-based call centers and features such as unlimited international texting to over 100 countries, telemedicine services, and roadside assistance ¡ª all bundled into a single subscription. The pricing of $47.45 per month appears to be a symbolic nod to Donald Trump¡¯s current presidential term as the 47th president, after having served earlier as the 45th.
Though it carries the Trump brand, the Trump Organization clarified it is not involved in the manufacturing of the smartphone or the direct provision of the network. Instead, the ¡°Trump¡± name is being used under a trademark license agreement. This model follows the structure of other Trump-branded ventures, where third parties use the name while managing operations independently.
The trademark management entity, DTTM Operations, has submitted new applications to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These filings cover mobile phones, accessories, and even retail outlets under the Trump and ¡°T1¡± names. This indicates broader ambitions in the telecom sector beyond just this launch.
Industry experts have noted the saturated nature of the U.S. smartphone and telecom market. Analysts like Paolo Pescatore from PP Foresight pointed out that the announcement leaves several details unclear, especially regarding relationships with established telecom providers. He added that while the initiative appears ambitious, its long-term commercial viability remains uncertain.
With Apple, Samsung, and the three major U.S. telecom carriers ¡ª Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile ¡ª dominating both the hardware and service segments, Trump Mobile will face intense competition. Over 60 million smartphones are sold annually in the U.S., most of which are manufactured outside the country due to cost and infrastructure limitations. The Trump Mobile phone positions itself uniquely as a U.S.-produced alternative with added service offerings tailored to its target audience.
