Unhappiness can come from a multitude of factors, from weather to the job market, but when it comes to the state of your misery, is it really location, location, location?Well, according to a new study, some states are significantly unhappier than others.?
WalletHub, a personal finance website, has released a 2023 report ranking the happiest states in the US. The report has been filed considering 30 metrics across three categories: emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment.??
To come up with its ranking¡ªand to see where Americans are the unhappiest with their life¡ªWalletHub compared all 50 states across 30 indicators of unhappiness. Those include a variety of factors, like depression rate, share of adults feeling productive, income growth, and even unemployment rate.
These are the unhappiest states, ranking from the unhappiest West Virginia to the 10th spot Oklahoma.?
West Virginia
West Virginia had the highest rate of adult depression and the lowest adequate sleep rate of any state in WalletHub¡¯s findings.?
Louisiana
Louisiana had the lowest safety ranking, the 3rd highest divorce rate and the 5th highest number of work hours. It ranked 48th in emotional and physical well-being.?
Tennessee
Tennessee. With the 4th highest rate of adult depression, Tennessee ranked 45th in emotional and physical well-being and 49th in community and environment.?
Arkansas
Arkansas, according to WalletHub¡¯s findings, has the third-lowest safety ranking and fifth-highest rate of adult depression in the US.
Kentucky
Kentucky has the 2nd highest rate of adult depression and the 4th lowest adequate sleep rate, contributing to its ranking of 47th in emotional and physical well-being.?
Alabama
Alabama locals have the third-lowest adequate sleep rate, fifth-lowest safety ranking and the second-lowest sports participation rate in the entire country.?
Mississippi
Mississippi had the 2nd lowest safety ranking and the 4th highest divorce rate in the US. It also ranked 42nd in emotional and physical well-being.?
Alaska
Although workers in Alaska lodge more hours than any other state, they are last in income growth, which explains its 48th ranking for work environment.
New Mexico
New Mexico had the 5th lowest volunteer rate, 4th highest suicide rate and the highest divorce rate.
Oklahoma
Despite ranking in the top five for community and environment, Oklahoma ranked 46th in emotional and physical well-being and 43rd for work environment.
