In a remarkable twist of fate, a 31-year-old man has been brought back to life after his heart ceased beating for almost 50 minutes. The incident took place in South Yorkshire, where Ben Wilson suffered a severe heart attack while at his residence.
Wilson was in his flat with his fianc¨¦e, 27-year-old Rebekka Holmes, when the attack struck, as per reports from the Metro. Holmes immediately began administering CPR and persisted until paramedics arrived on the scene.
"When the paramedics arrived, they indicated the severity of the situation. They utilised a defibrillator to administer shocks 11 times over 40 minutes before finally restoring a heartbeat," recounted Holmes to the Metro.
"But even after they managed to revive him, he faltered once more in the garden, and they had to shock him six more times within ten minutes to bring him back. He was promptly placed in an induced coma to minimise potential damage," she added.
After that, he was quickly taken to Barnsley Hospital and then moved to Northern General Hospital, where he had urgent surgery, as stated in reports. Holmes was told that Wilson's chances of getting better were not good because of his unhealthy way of living.??
On the seventh day following his initial cardiac event, Wilson experienced multiple heart attacks once again, leading doctors to bleakly inform Holmes that "he would not make it."
"I remained by his side throughout, expressing my love for him. I sang our song, 'Dream a Little Dream of Me,' sprayed my perfume on his pillow, and placed a teddy bear he had gifted me, bearing the words 'Love you to the moon and back,' by his side," recounted Holmes to the outlet regarding Wilson's hospitalisation experience.
Even though Wilson had more heart attacks, kidney problems, blood clots, and seizures afterwards, he woke up from the coma after five weeks. He surprised the doctors by standing up without any help.
Reportedly, Wilson's first utterance upon awakening from the coma was "Rebekka," his fianc¨¦e's name. Reflecting on the moment, Holmes shared, "It was a beautiful moment."
Last year, in June, Wilson experienced the incident and spent months in the hospital and rehab. Just a few days ago, he returned home and is now planning his wedding with Holmes.
"I am immensely grateful to everyone who has contributed to my recovery, especially Rebekka, for her unwavering support. I shudder to think what might have become of me had she not been there. I've been given a second chance at life, and I intend to seize it with Rebekka by my side," expressed Wilson, acknowledging his fianc¨¦e's steadfastness during his ordeal.
"We are delighted to learn of Ben's remarkable progress, considering the seriousness of his condition upon admission to the hospital," remarked Dr Jennifer Hill, Medical Director at the hospital, to the Metro.
"It is a testament to the expertise of the medical teams here and our colleagues throughout the regional health service that he has made such remarkable strides and, of course, to Ben's determination and resilience," added the doctor.
