With China involved in a standoff in Sikkim with the Indian Army and the volatile situation in the South China Sea, Beijing has put up an impressive show of its military capabilities for the world to take note.

Addressing the PLA soldiers, Chinese President Xi Jinping who was wearing a military uniform said that safeguarding peace is the responsibility of the country's military forces.
"The world is far from tranquil and peace needs to be safeguarded," Xi said.

At a time when Beijing is accusing New Delhi of "intruding into its territory", President Xi, without naming any country said the PLA is capable of defeating "all invading enemies".

PLA which today has a strength of 2.3 million personnel was founded on August 1, 1927 when the ruling Communist Party of China under the leadership of Mao Zedong carried on with his national liberation movement. PLA still continues to function under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and not the Chinese government.
