In a moment that had ARMYs across the globe holding their breath, BTS leaders RM and V were officially discharged from South Korea¡¯s mandatory military service on Tuesday, June 11, and they made sure to turn it into a memorable celebration.
The duo was seen greeting media and fans at South Park, South Korea, where they reunited with warm smiles, arms full of vibrant flowers, and even a little performance. In a now-viral moment captured by reporters, RM, who served in the military band, brought out his saxophone and played a short tune. V, ever the performer, couldn¡¯t resist dancing along, creating a joyful moment that screamed "peak BTS energy." And while they were at it, they also dished out their future plans and what fans can expect from the group in the coming days.
Speaking to reporters who asked what they plan to do next, RM said he believed both he and V had the same thing in mind ¡ª and that¡¯s to get back on stage. ¡°We want to have a concert and perform on stage,¡± he said, before adding that they plan to work on a new album and return to fans quickly. ¡°We¡¯ll hurry and make an album and return to the stage,¡± he continued. V chimed in, adding, ¡°real soon,¡± making it clear that music and performances are very much on their minds.
While speaking at their discharge ceremony, V also shared a heartfelt message to fans who have been waiting for their military return. ¡°Hello, this is Sergeant Kim Taehyung of the 2nd Corps Direct Unit, Ssangyong Special Task Force. I have been officially discharged from the military.¡± He went on to describe his time in service as a period of both physical and mental reset. ¡°Now, I feel that I¡¯ve rebuilt myself ¡ª physically and mentally ¡ª and I¡¯m eager to return to ARMY as soon as possible,¡± he said.
¡°To all the ARMYs who waited for me throughout my service, I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart,¡± he said. ¡°Just a little more patience, and we¡¯ll be back with amazing performances.¡±
He also gave a special shout-out to his unit and fellow soldiers, thanking them for their support and care. ¡°I¡¯ll do my best to become someone admirable in the world outside,¡± V concluded, signing off with a salute and a note that his voice was a bit hoarse ¡ª likely from both emotion and effort.
With Jin and J-Hope already discharged in 2023, and now RM and V completing their service in mid-2025, the countdown begins for the final three members ¡ª SUGA, Jimin, and Jungkook ¡ª who are still fulfilling their duties. While Jimin and Jungkook will be discharged on June 11, Suga will complete his mandatory service on June 21, paving the way for a full group comeback.
