Apple, on Monday, September 9, unveiled the most anticipated tech release of the year: the iPhone 16 series. Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced the world to the next generation of iPhones at an event held at its headquarters in Cupertino Park, California.
The iPhone 16 series includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The Apple iPhone 16 series features the new A18 Bionic chip, based on the Arm V9 chip architecture, to run the plethora of Apple's new AI features, called 'Apple Intelligence.'
"The next generation of the iPhone has been designed for Apple Intelligence from the ground up. It marks the beginning of an exciting new era," CEO Cook said.
Apple Intelligence, the company's AI software, will be used to improve its personal assistant, Siri, as well as enhance features such as understanding and identifying objects captured by the phone's camera.
"Apple Intelligence marks the start of a new era for Siri, making it more natural, more contextually relevant, and more personal to you," said Apple's software engineering chief, Craig Federighi.
The iPhone 16 will use the new A18 chip and have an aluminum back, along with a new customizable button that can be used for camera controls.
Apple also unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, titanium models with a faster chip, the A18 Pro, and more AI capabilities, such as offering suggestions on how to set up a photo shoot more effectively, along with audio-editing capabilities aimed at professional-level video production.
At the event, Apple also introduced new Watches and AirPods with health-focused capabilities and hardware design improvements. Apple highlighted the Watch's ability to detect longer-term health conditions such as sleep apnea, as well as detecting and responding to emergencies such as a fall.
According to Apple, its new AirPods will come with hearing-aid features pending U.S. regulatory review.
