The chief priest of Singapore's oldest Hindu temple has been taken into custody after being charged with "criminal breach of trust", said police as per PTI. The Sri Mariamman Temple filed a complaint when it realised that gold ornaments, which were in the priest's custody, were missing, the temple's statement said.?
An audit was what revealed that they were not there, said the temple, according to Channel News Asia. The priest's name was not taken in the statement.?
"Gold ornaments, which are frequently used for prayers, are kept under the custody of the chief priest in the inner sanctum of the temple. Regular audits are done to ensure that the gold ornaments are physically accounted for," it said.?
He returned all the missing items after being questioned, the temple said.?
Nobody else was involved, according to the Sri Mariamman Temple committee.?
"The temple committee had kept the Hindu Endowments Board informed of this matter from the time the loss was discovered and is working closely to have closure on this matter," said the temple while adding that the priest was out on bail.?
Police are still investigating the matter.??
