Taylor Swift, who was widely expected to attend the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August but gave the event a miss, has finally made her US Presidential pick clear as she endorsed Kamala Harris for the post of US President. The highly influential singer, who in the past has also sided with the Democrats, said she will be voting for Harris and Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos," Swift wrote in an Instagram post.
Notably, the leader of 'Swifties' signed off her post describing herself as a "childless cat lady." This was a direct dig at Donald Trump's Vice Presidential pick, JD Vance, who in a 2021 interview described Harris as a "childless cat lady."
Vance had said that the country is being run by ¡°a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable with their own lives and the choices that they¡¯ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too.¡±

The comments resurfaced after Trump chose Vance as his running mate for the Presidential election. Vance has since expressed regret over his sarcastic comment being taken the wrong way by people and also clarified that he had nothing against cats.
Swift's endorsement of Harris came immediately after the Democratic candidate concluded her first Presidential debate against Donald Trump. Given her global popularity, many experts believe that Swift's endorsement of Harris could help swing a significant share of her fanbase's vote in favour of the Democratic candidate.
